Trips to New Orleans
What do we do?
We work with a variety of nonprofit organizations to rebuild. Our work includes gutting, drywalling, painting, lot clearing, and other tasks that need to be done. In the evenings, we tutor neighborhood children, invite speakers to discuss pressing social issues in NOLA, and explore the city. How many students do we bring? We bring about 80-100 students on winter, spring, and summer break trips; we bring a smaller group on fall break. How do we get there? We travel by mini-van. Seven students per van for 16 hours— your new best friends! Where do we stay? All Souls Episcopal Church, 5500 St. Claude Ave in the Lower Ninth Ward. How much does it cost? Trips generally cost around $200. This goes towards paying for gas, tools and materials, meals, etc. How do you apply? You will receive an email that a trip application is available. It includes basic information and three short essay questions. You can apply to be a group leader (must have gone on at least one trip) or a trip participant. |
