MARDI GRAS Marquette Before I Die Wall
MARDI GRAS shared a piece of New Orleans on Marquette's campus September 26-28, 2011.
Inspiration for the wall
“Candy Chang turned the side of an abandoned house in her New Orleans neighborhood into a giant chalkboard where residents can write on the wall and share what is important to them. Before I Die is an interactive public art project that transforms neglected spaces into constructive places where we can discover the hopes and aspirations of the people around us. Share your dreams, too...” (http://www.beforeidie.cc).
Purpose
MARDI GRAS Marquette’s purpose of presenting this display was to share a favorite New Orleans landmark with campus and to serve as a reminder that rebuilding New Orleans is far from complete. The wall has frequently served as a tool for reflection. We hope it allowed others to pause and reflect as well.
Donations
Donations will help fund the rebuilding of the home of a friend of MARDI GRAS and father of four. Before he dies, he wants his family to live in a healthy home.
